not that there is much difference.
Geeze--you guys sure can get pissed in a hurry. Frankly, most of you on both sides of these coins have evidenced the sort of vitriolic ignorance that runs this and other countries. You sure have said some nasty things to your "friends."
You do not understand history; you do not understand other cultures; you do not understand that these issues are far more complicated than you make them out to be; you do not show much respect for one another, and civility seems out of the question.
Some of the comments I have read are downright idiotic and serve only to highlight hostilities between different viewpoints (though there are also some interesting and intelligent posts). I thought Amerika was founded on dissent; guess not.
If the governor of a certain state goes against the will of the people, then elect someone else--eh? You wanna bomb Iraq? That's what Saddam did--bombed whole villages of folks who had different religions ort cultures. Abortion rights? Men--when was the last time YOU got pregnant? Let's choose for our women since they are not capable of determining their own biological paths.
I try not to argue cases that I don't know enough about, and I feel strongly that the United States should not be the arbitrator of the world. We have enough problems here.
But it is wrong to demoralize those who are there by breaking promises and by having the very generals who lead them reveal our weaknesses.
Bush was shortsighted and misguided in starting a war in Iraq; now we face an impossible, no-win situation. Stay and let our children be sacricicial lambs in someone else's civil war--a tribal/religious war that has gone on since the Old Testement, or leave the hornets we have stirred up to keep killing each other. You cannot win someone else's war--didn't we learn that in Vietnam? You can only help wreck a country already divided into factions. But once you do go in and promise to restore stability, you cannot leave those who believe in you to be murdered in their own streets.
Saddam was pure evil--but who will take his place and lead Iraq out of the desert? Who will keep Iran from attacking its mortally wounded neighbor?
Who? Bush? Clinton? You?
Knowledge is power; anger is weakness.
A healthy debate with mutual respect can lead to solutions; attack each other--on such a personal basis--and self destruct.
Yes, I am holier than though, smarter, and better equipped to handle political issues than you guys. I am also, no doubt, more full of shit.
Play nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How dare you. You smug, self-important windbag. It's people like you who generate healthy debate in this country. You think our Founding Fathers actually intended us to freely air our opinions without fear of persecution or prosecution? I actually think they hoped we'd end up gunning each other down in the street, making governing that much easier.
Seriously, its good to hear someone expressing their opinion without attacking someone else (much).
Oh, yeah, and by the way, the 30th Anniversary Show today is another monster that should be enjoyed by all. An earlier commment referred to the series of three shows culminating with today's show from 30 years ago make up "The Holy Trinity" of Dead shows. Many will agree with this, many will not. Taken individually, perhaps one can point to other shows as superior, but it is difficult to find a series of three consecutive shows, take as a whole, that can stand up to this trifecta. Listening to these shows just puts that permagrin back on my face and reminds me why this is the best band in the land. So lets put down the arrows and barbs for a little while, long enough to find the common ground that is the Dead and take some time to let the music do the talking.

Fine. Keep writing. I always yawn when I'm interested.

How poetic, Sir Pig. A night time sky redolent of maybes, and unrealised potential and possibilities.

Hey Dire. I gave that Zero with Garcia a listen this morning - just so so. It's an aud, not bad sound but not a lot of things stand out in the mix. For instance you can't hardly make out Cipollina ( maybe he wasn't hardly playing I don't know ), nor is there much interplay between Jerry and Steve. But Fierro you can hear more and his playing kinda sort of can make me wince. The Goodnight Irene is really cool though.

Blue Devil - I like the 5/9 first set a million times more thats for sure but the second set I mioht have to give the edge to 5/8. Definately great Comes a Time ( and Uncle Johns too ) but the Other One I don't find that special, But I'm not a huge Other One fan so I'm probably biased there.

NO, want to make something of it?
Here's why - I like the 68-69 Fiery ones, and I like the 73-74 ones but the latter goes off into space and isn't the same theme over and over again. After that the theme, to me, is somewhat repititious and uninspired.
Ok people - flame away!

In some way it shows that people care an awful lot about the subject, and maybe the hostility comes from everything thats been done up to this point has fallen on a deaf white house. Do you realize the amount of demonstrations on both sides of the alley far exceed any sort of demonstrations in the 60's or 70's? So for the most part people HAVE been participating in one way or another to voice theyre opinions.
BTW i like how you belittle us and tell us how to post, then attempt to "stir up the hornets" yourself at the end of your statement by adding more fuel to the fire.

whatEVER the argument, having a scapegoat is important...
As Napoleon was deceiving the neighboring farmers he was also tricking his own animals. The scapegoat was again Snowball. "Whenever anything went wrong it became usual to attribute it to Snowball." In fact many of the claims begin to sound ridiculous to the objective mind. Of course, Squealer's mission is to keep everything subjective in the minds of the animals.

Funny, I didn't find anything remotely close to religion or politics in that thread.
I thought it was JOTS weekly anti-religion tirade and TT's weekly ant-jihad tirade. They get on their soapbox and get angry when people don't agree with their opinions. Throw out some insults and name calling. That's what yesterday's thread was.
And Dire, in all honesty, I think you should have a keyboard made special with the word "FUCK" as a key. The immense amount of time you would save by only having to type your favorite word with one keystroke. Brilliant.

Maybe the confusiing sequencing of events due to faulty thread timestamp coding has made it seem like things are different than they really are. Some folks came on hear screaming and ranting in illogical and unfounded platforms that were exaggerations of their political leanings. If everyone would just utter gibberish or change the subject it will really piss them off. Let's try that from now on.
I like when poeple think you have logged off and try and psychoanalyze your intentions or motives from simple typed text on a webpage. Like a bunch of old hens pecking at my poop piles. So is everyone psyched out for the Gewn Stefani concert tonight?

Graduated to the aircast? Sweet. True freedom is beckoning. Very happy to hear that. Soon I won't be able to call you "that hobbling fucker".

Picture, if you will, Wendy in The Shining discovering the book Jack's been writing, only instead of page after page of "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy," she finds page after page of "fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck---------oh, fuck it. You get the idea.

Well put, GOP. Once again you said that which needed saying and said it with some considerable style and panache.
Of course, as a softly spoken, self-effacing, pacifist Scot it is not my place to point out that my fellow forumites are a bunch of thick-skinned, moronic, shit-stirring, opinionated colonials, who couldn’t manage to keep their noses or any other part of their anatomy out of anyone else’s business if you beat them back with a nail-studded shillelagh.
But they know I love them dearly anyway.

"You do not understand history; you do not understand other cultures; you do not understand that these issues are far more complicated than you make them out to be..."
A dubious claim at best.
"... you do not show much respect for one another, and civility seems out of the question."
This, on the other hand, is right on the mark.
